Affiliated charter schools are public schools that are operated by the District. Most converted to a charter school through a petition.
Affiliated charter schools are authorized by the LAUSD Board of Education and follow District policies and procedures. These schools may have additional flexibility and some local control.
What are the goals of the instructional program?
Each school’s charter has specific goals for the instructional program. You can learn more by contacting the school.
Who is eligible?
All students who live in California can apply for enrollment.
Parents who live in the charter school’s attendance boundary are provided first choice and can directly contact the school for
enrollment or submit a pre-enrollment registration online at Enroll.LAUSD.net.
Parents who live outside of the charter school’s attendance boundary apply for enrollment using the Choices application. If there are
more applicants than spaces available, the school must hold a random public lottery. In the lottery, the remaining seats are offered
based on certain priorities. A permit is not needed to attend an affiliated charter school.
How are students selected?
Parents must apply online at Choices.lausd.net or submit a paper application. Please check the on-time application dates. The
application for next school year is available in October.
On-time applicants will be entered into the lottery at each school they apply.
The online application allows you to apply to multiple affiliated charter schools. When applying to multiple schools, there is no order
of preference.
A lottery is needed only when the number of applicants is greater than the number of seats available. For schools conducting
enrollment lotteries, please note the following:
The school will publish the date and time of the lottery on their website and in the main office.
The lottery will be conducted in February.
You are not required to attend.
At the lottery, all applications will be grouped in priority order. The applications will be randomly selected to fill the available
seats.
For anyone not selected in the lottery, a waiting list will be created. Students will remain on the waiting list for one school year
only.
Is there transportation?
Transportation may be available for students participating in Choices programs. Please visit the Transportation Services Division
website at www.lausd.org/transportation to complete the opt-in process or speak to an administrator at your school to inquire about
transportation options.
Who can I contact for more information?
Contact the specific affiliated charter school for more information about their program and how to enroll.
Independent Charter Schools are not included in the Choices application. Contact the independent charter school for questions
